How Not to Catch A Bad Mood

As an empath it can be hard to be around someone who’s in a bad mood for an extended period of time without getting upset too. While it’s normal to be impacted when someone you care about is feeling off, it’s less than ideal if their emotional state becomes yours when you’re having a great day and you want it to stay that way.

I’m here to share some tips for staying high vibe when someone you’re with isn’t while still being a good human/partner/coworker/friend.

Here are some things you can do to prevent another’s bad day from bringing you down:

  1. When you notice the energy is off with another person and before you start thinking about why it might be or how you can help, silently set an intention to stay in alignment with your highest self & ask to see the situation through her eyes.


  2. Close your eyes for a moment and envision a big bubble expanding around you. This bubble helps keep negative vibes out and prevents you from spreading your worry or fear but it lets good stuff pass through. It's a great way to resource yourself so that you can stay present with whatever is going on for the person you’re with without being swept up in what they’re feeling.


  3. Diffusing mood boosting essential oils is a subtle way to powerfully shift emotions. Adding dōTERRA wild orange and peppermint to a diffuser is my go to for this very situation. 


  4. Ground yourself. If you feel yourself getting carried away in someone else’s ‘stuff’ connect with your feet, feel them planted firmly on the floor and take a few deep breaths as you feel yourself sink into your body and envision roots growing from your feet down into the floor beneath you.

Think back to a moment when they were truly happy. With your eyes closed see the smile on their face, hear their laughter and remind yourself that emotions are just energy in motion and they’ll be back to their smiling, jolly selves eventually and then relax about the whole thing.

Remember that well being is ALWAYS flowing to them and to you and to everybody else and that all of us forget that from time to time and think thoughts that keep us from NOTICING that flow but we can never EVER do anything that could make it stop.
